Flow Valves Back flow valves are required in domestic, commercial & industrial application. In a domestic situation generally the only backflow protection you need is one of the following: 1: Backstop valve- a non testable device fitted to your hose tap to prevent back siphonage through your hose into your drinking water. For low risk areas. 2: Vacuum breaker valve- a non testable device fitted to your hose tap to prevent back siphonage through your hose into your drinking water. For low risk areas. 3: Dual check valve- a non testable device fitted to appliances which use drinking water such as a dishwasher or water filter. These are also used on domestic watering systems. For low risk areas. Most of these valves are not repairable. In commercial & industrial applications much more reliable valves are use which are tested every year. These valves are one of the following: 1: Double Check valve (DCV)- these are used in medium risk areas where if backflow occurs minor illness can occur. This valve is fully serviceable and testable. 2: Reduced Pressure Zone valve (RPZ)- these are used in high risk areas where if backflow occurs serious illness or death can occur. This valve is fully serviceable and testable. For a more detailed explanation follow this link http://www.tycoflowcontrol.com.au/ and look in industrial /backflow/overview brochure.
